entertaining is a fun family affair

While I’m not a mind reader, I bet that you have about a million excuses as to why you couldn’t possibly host a family dinner or a brunch with friends.
Hear me out on this: entertaining doesn’t have to be hard! It can be so much fun AND very easy to pull off! I grew up in a home where Sunday dinners were the norm. From as early as I can remember until it was time to move out on my own, it was my job to help my mom set the table. We picked out linens, set out dinnerware, preselected serving dishes and utensils and then set them in their place.
While my mom has been gone for almost 15 years now, I still look back at those Sunday dinners with such fondness. We would laugh when my grandmother missed the joke, tease my uncle about his golf game, and plan for the next trip to the craft fair with my aunt. All at that dining room table we had set hours earlier.
With the sun lingering in the late afternoon sky a bit longer these days, I’m thinking about hosting my next Sunday dinner party–and setting the dining room table with my kids. The three of them laugh when I tell them funny stories about their grandmother, my mom, as they help me put out plates and linens collected over the years–a tablecloth from Denmark that I purchased in an Aarhus museum in 2021, crystal dessert dishes handed down from my mom to me, dishes from Crate & Barrel that look just as good today as they did the day we registered for them in 2005.
I can’t wait to shake the winter blues at my dining room table with my family and our friends
